System Administrator - DM-16962

Description

The Client leads the Australian Government’s efforts to improve cyber security anf has an ongoing requirement for multiple System Administrators to work in support of various ICT systems and Cyber projects within an integrated workforce. This is a unique opportunity for experienced System Administrators to join ASD and contribute to the Australian Government’s efforts to improve cyber security.

Indicative duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct VMWare, Windows and Linux systems administration including Operating System installation, configuration, integration, hardening, software and patch management
  • Documentation of ICT systems including configuration management
  • Install, maintain or decommission ICT capability hardware and software as required
  • Monitor and manage ICT system capacity and usage
  • Identify and analyze system issues and work in close coordination with relevant stakeholders to recommend and implement remediation actions
  • Create and maintain system documentation and support procedures
  • Identify any configuration discrepancies, assess security risks, and implement solutions in accordance with security standards.

Key knowledge and experience areas include:

  • Linux, Cloud, network and security administration including design, planning, implementation, hardening and maintaining and sustaining of ICT systems
  • Operational experience covering operating system installation, system configuration, integration, hardening, software and patch management (includes use of automation, configuration management and deployment tools)
  • Identification, analysis and resolution of system performance issues and
  • system documentation

Initial contract duration: 12 months

Extension term: 12 months

Security clearance: Australian Citizen and must have a NV1 Security clearance

Working arrangements

The successful candidate will normally work 5 days per week (estimated 40 hour week). This role is Canberra based, however interstate candidates are encouraged to apply, and will be considered. The Agency will consider and negotiate offsite (work from anywhere) working arrangements on a case by case basis. Where an offsite working arrangement is agreed, successful candidate will be required to:

• Attend the Agency’s Canberra Office for the first week of their engagement to undertake compulsory training and to meet team members and various Agency personnel

• Travel to Canberra at least once per month for a minimum of 4 working days for key stakeholder, team, and organisational events.

FOR INFORMATION: This role requires the successful candidate to complete an Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA) prior to engagement. An OSA is an ASD policy requirement (ASD-POL-014) for contractors who will be engaged for a period in excess of 12 months. OSA’s are conducted to determine a person’s suitability to work in ASD.

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrated experience and proven skills in design, planning, implementation, hardening and maintaining and sustaining one or more of the following technologies domains;
  • Demonstrated operational experience in:
  • Proven self-management and communication skills in an ICT technical role including:
    • Linux Systems administration
    • Cloud Systems administration
    • Network and security administration
    • Operating system installation
    • System configuration
    • Integration
    • Hardening
    • Software and patch management (includes use of automation, configuration management and deployment tools)
    • Identification, analysis and resolution of system performance issues and
    • System documentation.
  • Proven ability to work as a productive member of a team using DevOps and agile methods
  • Strong time management and self organisation skills
  • Ability to identify and engage effectively with stakeholders
  • Contribute to or conduct technical workshops, design reviews and meetings
  • Providing clear and concise advice

Desirable criteria

  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience in one or more of; OS hardening, IdAM solutions, system architecture or security analysis.
  • Experience in one or more of the following technologies:
    • Authentication and Authorization
    • System and network protocols (e.g. DNS, DHCP, NTP, SSH, ) and proxies (i.e. web proxies).
    • Threat Intelligence or SIEM platforms;
    • Cloud Infrastructure (Public, Private, Hybrid);
    • Containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes);
    • Software defined storage (CEPH, Object Storage)
    • Software Development (Python, Java)
    • Big Data solutions (data capture, data storage, data analysis, search, sharing, transfer, visualization, querying, updating, machine learning, predictive modelling/analysis)
