Senior UNIX Infrastructure Expert (EL1) - Canberra

Description

Federal Government client is seeking a Senior UNIX / Linux Infrastructure Expert, who will play a vital role in managing our Midrange Unix Infrastructure. You will also be responsible for mentoring junior infrastructure engineers, providing technical leadership to application teams, and advancing troubleshooting capabilities i.e. Level 2/ Level 3 support across the Midrange environments.

You will work with project and application teams to understand the business needs, be able to articulate the business need into a technical solution which is secure by design and focused on automation to introduce efficiency and innovation. You will also be a key contributor to introduce the resiliency and reduction of technical debt in our Midrange infrastructure environment by undertaking upgrades, patching and migrations to the new platforms.

  • Unix/Linux (Red Hat Enterprise Linux/Solaris/AIX),IBM Power, Oracle SPARC, Red Hat OpenStack/OpenShift, High Availability Operating System Clustering technologies, Ansible Automation Platform and Ansible Scripting, RedHat Satellite and Identity Manager

Working arrangements Canberra – Candidates must work from Services Australia’s Canberra office a minimum of 3 days per week.

Security clearance Must be an Australian Citizen with an active Negative Vetting Level 1 Security Clearance

Key duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with other teams across the Infrastructure Division and vendors to assess, plan, and implement infrastructure improvements, patching and upgrades.
  • Evaluate and assist in the ongoing support of ISM compliant secure Midrange Unix infrastructure platforms.
  • Participate in incident response and problem management activities, providing expertise and guidance to resolve complex issues effectively.
  • Support security monitoring and implementing improvements.
  • Mentor and coach other junior infrastructure engineers within the team, fostering their professional development and technical growth.
  • Understand business continuity requirements, plan and build solutions to support that.
  • Support formal change management processes. There may be requirement to occasionally support after hours scheduled work or on a more routine basis as part of Unix Operations team on call roster system.
Requirements

Mandatory Criteria:

  • Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux Operating Systems.
  • Experience with IBM AIX Operating Systems.
  • Experience with creating detailed technical documentation, e.g. as-built documents, operational handover documents, support guides, standard operating procedures.
  • Experience in working collaboratively with networking, compute, storage, security engineers and architects to coordinate deployment and management of components.
  • Experience in working with vendors and internal resources to ensure delivery of solutions meets requirements

Weighted Criteria:

  • Experience with Red Hat Ansible automation, Red Hat Pacemaker, Red Hat Satellite and Identity Manager
  • Experience with Virtualisation on the IBM Power platform.
  • Experience with Virtualisation on the VMware platform.
  • Experience with Virtualisation on the Openstack platform.
  • Experience with Virtualisation on the Oracle SPARC Platform.
  • Certified Red Hat Certified Administrator (RHCA) or Certified Red Hat Certified Engineer, (RHCE) or Oracle Solaris Administration Certification is highly regarded.
